Florida Indicators NetworkAs Florida moves forward in the new millennium, it has many challenges and opportunities to be prosperous in the new global economy while maintaining the quality of life that Floridians enjoy. To achieve these ideals, policy makers and leaders must realistically assess the current conditions in order to make decisions about how to plan for the future. The Florida Indicators Network (FIN) supports the idea that data matters and that community mobilization and public policy can and should be based on actual trends discovered through empirical information, not on anecdotal information. Indicators are a valuable tool to assess the current conditions of a region and measure progress, to inform citizens as they form visions for their regions, and to inform policy-makers as they enact public policies and implement plans to move toward those visions.
